Colorado National Monument

Cool stuff to do in Grand Junction, part one!

The Colorado National Monument is a good choice for you outdoorsy types. If the weather's nice you can rent a bike and ride up the mountain. If you're feeling extra adventurous it has a campground and you can spend the night there!

You can get into the park free if you have a National Parks Annual Pass. Otherwise it's only $7 per vehicle for a week, or $4 per person (if you're riding a bike, for example). Camping costs $10 per night.

Their website has a long list of things to do on the monument, including mountain biking, rock climbing, picnicking, camping, hiking, and photography. Here's a link for more info.

One of the things I liked best when I visited was the amazing view, but the drive was rather terrifying. Pro tip: if you're going for camping and hate mountain driving as much as I do, drive to Fruita (East of Grand Junction) before heading to the Monument. There are only 4 miles of windy mountain roads before you get to the main camp site area, instead of 25 or more. If you're going for hiking, start from the Grand Junction side.
